News and announcements by the Tramprennen-crew

First route of Tramprennen 2011!

On the road again! After completing our admittedly borderline-nutty hardcore trainingcamp, which sent the teams on a 60 hour long trip all over the roads of Europe we are ready for more! With nearly 75 freaks from all over Germany competing in last year’s race, we are exploring new paths: This year the Tramprennen will not only start in one city, but in three! Along with this comes another innovation: In August 2011 we will not only hitchhike for water projects of the German Viva con Agua de St.Pauli but also for Viva con Agua Switzerland! Trampennen is going international! We want you!

We hope that you folks out there are just as excited as we are about this year’s race. After many a debate the routes have been finalized and we can once again promise that this year’s routes will provide a lot of fun and adventure! As you already know, this year we will hitchhike to Preveza, in Greece. But so far, we haven’t published any of the stops inbetween yet. You have been waiting long enough, the hitchhiking season has just started again (for most of us it probably hadn’t even ended during winter…), the sun is shining more frequently and accordingly the time of waiting for infos about the Tramprennen 2011 is now officially over! Yaaaay!

From today onward we will announce the five different routes of the Tramprennen 2011! To keep the tension high, we will provide you with the routes step by step! We are sure, you will understand!

And the first route will start in…………..
the beautiful city of Basel at the boardertriangle of Germany, France and Switzerland!

Since we are also hitchhiking for Viva con Agua Switzerland this year it was only logical that at least one route will start in Switzerland. Hitch-Off for the route “Kneipenterroristen” will be in Basel with the support of the Swiss Viva con Agua Crew! Kneipenterroristen will race through the Austrian Alps, chill at Croatian beaches and dance to Balkan beats. But find out for yourself and check out the link for all the details and different stages! We hope, you like them!

Tramprennen 2011: Greece it is!

After the winter break, Tramprennen is back on track!

We did not go through weeks of discussions, we did not read travelblogs for days – completely overrated anyway. All we did to fix the 2011 destination was opening a map on a random page and check where our pointer ended up! So here it is: This years race for clean water goes to Greece – to Preveza, to be exact. A municipality with around 20.000 surrounded by beaches!

[singlepic id=1709 w=320 h=240 float=right]

We are looking forward to hitchhike with over 100 people in 5 routes from different starting points to Greece! It is not yet clear where we will start exactly – Hamburg, Berlin, Bayreuth, Basel, Bleiwäsche and Barcelona are current favorites.

In short:

– Tramprennen 2011 to Preveza, Greece

Start: 22nd of August 2011

– for Viva con Agua and clean potable water

All further Infos such as, registration details, starting points, routes, donation forms, press releases and so on will be shared in the following weeks.

Feel free to share opinions and suggestions in the Comments section – we are happy about any kind of feedback!

Happy Hitchhiking and see you on the road! =)

Go for the trophy!

Friday evening, south-east Bavaria. In the scenic village of Berchtesgaden the day is coming to an end. People are cheerful, for it’s the start of the weekend. After a moody early April, the weather is finally more stable and it appears as if Spring has now come. All over the village work is being finished and the first beers are drafted.

In a small shop in the heart of the village however the lights are still on and a young and talented sculptor’s apprentice is chiseling, hammering, sawing, drilling and polishing. He’s working hard on a piece that needs to be finished this very night. The holidays are nearing and the shop will be closed then. Again and again he’s got to wipe the sweat off his face and rub his burning eyes. Finger’s bleeding and the nerve’s at an end. Had he just not procrastinated so much – the trophy for the 60-hour-race would have been done a long time back! Now he’s got to go full power. A last cut, a screw here and there, some glue and finally the paint-job… It is late, very late… the young artist is fighting sleep… but then, with his last bit of energy the work is done and he peacefully falls asleep right there on the workbench.

The final product is amazing – let’s see who can take it home…

Hitchhiking from Hamburg to Valencia and back

The 60 hour race is over and after a couple of days of recovery time we’re fresh and awake again!

Thursday morning around 45 hitchhikers in 20 teams met at 9am in front of “Susi’s Showbar”, Hamburg-St.Pauli to hitchhike 60 hours as far as they can and back to Hamburg! Most of them made it home from Marseille, almost Rome, Zenica, Belgrade, Zagreb, Szeged, Rimini, Prague and many more cities all over europe.

[singlepic id=1711 w=320 h=240 float=left]
Some got stuck in Marseille and Paris, but the majority was back before 10pm, enjoyed the refreshing sun in Hamburg with a beer and tons of stories after 60 hours of hitchhiking.

In the end, the team “King Kong und die weiße Frau” won the race with over 1600km distance bird’s flight and 4000 hitchhiked kilometers! Congrats!

Second and third place went to “Die Glückswürste” and “The Hot Weenies” who made it to Southern France with 1283 & 1345 covered Kilometers!

Photos from the race will follow soon, we’re waiting for mails with photos from participants!

In parallel, the preparations for Tramprennen 2011 for Viva con Agua have started months ago. News will follow in the upcoming weeks here on this website!

Cheers! Your TR-Crew
